about us
In 1993 a group of very talented, professional theatre people formed a company in order to produce a production that co-founder Vivienne Atkins had long dreamed of bringing to the Huntsville stage. After viewing a riveting performance of Sweeny Todd at a cast party in 1985, Vivienne was motivated to pool the talent and creativity of Huntsville's finest actors, and technical artists for the project. The curtain went up, and Independent Musical Productions was born with its debut production of Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. There was a company, a fine production, and the potential for a great future. Since that production, Independent Musical Productions, Inc. has attained non-profit status and has become a member of the Huntsville-Madison County Arts Council. The membership has expanded and IMP has become an established part of the local arts community. Many years worth of splendid productions have followed yielding not only wonderful talent, and high quality performance, but also a wide variety of musical entertainment that has been enjoyed by all of Huntsville's avid theater-goers. IMP's status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization means that your donations are 100% tax-deductible, and donations are always welcome! Producing large-scale musicals is an expensive operation. Mission Statement Independent Musical Productions was formed for the purpose of producing top quality musical theatre in the Tennessee Valley area, and to promote musical theatre arts in the active life of the community and the area. Wings Awards The Wings Awards are Huntsville's answer to Broadway's "Tony" awards. Each year Huntsville's best performers and most talented technical people are recognized at a gala dinner/performance event. The following is a list of IMP winners.
