October 2010: Dragonfly Door
IMP's Fall children's show is an original musical adaptation of John Adams' book, Dragonfly Door. It is a story concerning life changes. Visit their website for more information on the book and study guides. Area teachers should find this to be a good field trip choice for curriculum based content and sheer enjoyment. Activities planned with this production are a workshop and a book signing by the award-winning book author. This will be a "not to be missed" family friendly event. October 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 2nd at 2:30 p.m. with field trips Sept. 30, Oct. 1 at 9:00 a.m. (Times tentative) March 2011: RENT March 2011 will bring the first area presentation of RENT. IMP is excited to be staging this exciting event at Merrimack Hall. Watch for more news concerning this production featuring some special events, as we partner with Merrimack Hall to bring this outstanding musical to North Alabama. "Rent is a rock opera with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La bohème. It tells a story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS." June 2011: 1776 In June 2011 IMP will be presenting 1776, the musical about days leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We currently are booked in the VBC Concert Hall, that venue is tentative pending on a grant. Alternate location would probably be Lee Lyric Theater located at Lee High School. If you would like to make a donation toward IMP please do so on our Circle of 100 page."1776 is a musical with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone. It is based on the events leading to the writing and signing of the United States Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1776. We are excited to be partnering with Huntsville Community Chorus on this project. Please check the website often for new information. The musical was produced on Broadway in 1969, running for 1,217 performances, and was made into a film of the same name in 1972.
