Independent Musical Productions, Inc. (IMP) presents each of their musical theatre events at the Lee Lyric Theater located at Lee High School, Huntsville, AL. It is often asked why a community theatre group of IMP's caliber chooses to perform at one of the local high schools. The answer is four fold:

Outreach

IMP considers the theatrical works that are produced at the school to be outreach to the students that are involved. Lee High School, being a performing arts magnet school, holds as one of its goals the task of educating their magnet students in the theatre arts. How better to do that than in a hands-on educational environment. The Lee High School Magnet students work on each IMP production as technical and production staff. They are taught how to put a show together from the ground up and are taught practical applications for what they are taught in the their theatre classrooms.

Proscenium Stage with Moderate Seating Capacity

Lee Lyric Theater offers a proscenium stage (a stage area framed by an outer wall which allows the audience to view the action like a painting) and seating of approximately 900 audience members. This size house and proscenium style is comparable to the more popular production venues in New York City. When comparing the other venues that are available to the organization in Huntsville, none match the desirability of the Lee Lyric Theater for those reasons. The VBC does not offer a theatrical venue with a reasonable seating capacity for the local community theatre groups that is also a proscenium stage.

Location & Parking

Lee Lyric Theater is located just 1 mile off of I-565 in Northeast Huntsville. (See below for directions.) The ease in getting to the theatre is a real benefit to its patrons. Instead of leaving an hour earlier than the show to find parking, get into the theatre, and find their seats, patrons can arrive 15 - 20 minutes prior to any production and have no problem finding an available parking space; furthermore, parking is free.

Cost

Given the expense involved in producing quality musical theatre events, cutting production costs plays a big part in maintaining reasonable ticket prices. The cost involved in producing an event at other venues is prohibitive to keeping ticket prices low. Therefore, IMP produces events at Lee Lyric Theatre where the cost is considerably lower than that at other venues in Huntsville.

Lee Lyric Theatre is located in Lee High School, 606 Forrest Circle, Huntsville, AL 35811. General driving directions are as follows:

From the north:

  1. Travel south on Memorial Parkway.
  2. Exit at Oakwood Avenue.
  3. Turn left onto Oakwood Avenue.
  4. Proceed 1.2 miles to Lee High Drive.
  5. Turn left onto Lee High Drive.
  6. Follow the road (it will curve) to the stop sign.
  7. Turn left. The theater is on your right.
 From the south:

  1. Travel north on Memorial Parkway.
  2. Exit onto I-565 eastbound.
  3. Exit at exit 20 (Oakwood Avenue).
  4. Continue straight onto Lee High Drive.
  5. Follow the road (it will curve) to the stop sign.
  6. Turn left. The theater is on your right.
From the west:

  1. Travel east on I-565.
  2. Exit at exit 20 (Oakwood Avenue).
  3. Continue straight onto Lee High Drive.
  4. Follow the road (it will curve) to the stop sign.
  5. Turn left. The theater is on your right.
 From the east:

  1. Travel west on I-565.
  2. Exit at exit 20 (Oakwood Avenue).
  3. Turn right onto Oakwood Avenue.
  4. Turn right onto Lee High Drive (next traffic signal).
  5. Follow the road (it will curve) to the stop sign.
  6. Turn left. The theater is on your right.
