In 1993,
a group of very talented professional theatre people formed a company in order to stage a production that
co-founder Vivienne Atkins had long dreamed of bringing to the Huntsville stage. After viewing a riveting
performance of Sweeney Todd at a cast party in 1985, Vivienne was motivated to pool the talent and
creativity of Huntsville's finest actors and technical artists for the project. The curtain went up, and
Independent Musical Productions was born with its premiere production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of
Fleet Street. There was a company, a fine production, and the potential for a great future.
IMPHuntsville
provides high-quality theatre to the North Alabama area by putting world-class work on stage, but we're
so much more than that: We share a partnership with the Performing Arts Magnet Program at Lee High School
and the Academy for Academics and Arts, and we have an educational outreach program with the New Hope,
Alabama, school system in partnership with The Care Center. We offer workshops during the season and partner
with various arts, civic, and charitable organizations in program support and cooperative projects.
We're
a community of artists, administrators, educators, and business and civic leaders devoted to theatre, arts,
and arts education. We've won awards for our work and our advocacy. We are supported by the Alabama
Council on the Arts and the City of Huntsville Arts and Cultural Grants as well as individual and business
sponsorships. IMPHuntsville's status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization means that your donations
are 100% tax-deductible, and donations are always welcome! Producing large-scale musicals is an expensive operation!
We look forward
to seeing YOU — at auditions, in the scene shop, in the costume shop, in our educational programs, or
sitting in the audience.
